Heathen Apostles to Play Roots in the Jar / Muddy Roots Festival

Philip Vandendriessche’s ROOTS IN THE JAR came to life in June 2020, it was an online music festival with 3 days of roots music, Gothic Americana, honky tonk, country, blues, bluegrass and gospel. during the COVID-19 pandemic. After a successful first edition of the online festival, four more editions followed. Inspired by this success, Philip envisioned a live Roots in the Jar Festival, and the Heathen Apostles were among the first bands announced for the June 8th date. Recently, it was revealed that there would be a Roots in the Jar / Muddy Roots festival partnership.

The Muddy Roots Announcement:
Muddy Roots was always supposed to be a bridge between scenes, genres, and art communities. It has no borders. It can not be confined to a venue.
Here’s the BIG NEWS!! Muddy Roots will carry on the original mission to spread the Muddy Roots Gospel. That means we are here to build up and support other promoters and bands. Events all over will be officially supported, consulted, and backed by Muddy Roots.
Roots In The Jar festival started planning their event recently. The bands that were announced sure felt closer to the earlier MRE lineups, so naturally, it caught our eye.. You could see the fighting spirit this new promoter had and the energy the bands were going to bring to his field. It’s quite common for people in our scenes to create their own festivals. Which means we knew Philip from coming to MRE. What a perfect fit for a new partnership. (Not under Galaz Events & Trading Co. which was established to do MRE at Cowboy Up) This event is owned by Philip, but backed and supported by us.
Join us in Belgium June 6-9, 2025 at “ROOTS IN THE JAR,” Farm Fest! We’ll get more info on the site this week. Tickets can be purchased through Philip HERE

TGF’s previous events have seen the following acts grace their stage: The Mission, The Loveless, The 69 Eyes, New Model Army, Fields Of The Nephilim, Peter Hook & The Light, Theatre Of Hate, Cold Cave, The March Violets AND Clan Of Xymox.

Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival on HalloweenFields of the Nephilim is the creation of vocalist and front man Carl McCoy, a seeker of the greater truth, who sprang from humble beginnings in south London. Brought up in a religious environment, Carl became familiar with the stories of the Watchers and Nephilim at a very early age. Unquestionably, this influenced his decision to pursue a creative career in art and music which embraced the world of the occult and portrayed it through his own apocalyptic fusion of Victorian underworld meets Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western, Fields of the Nephilim’s emerging brand of dark aural delights – expressed in tracks such as ‘Trees come down’, ‘Power’, ‘Preacher Man’ and ‘Dawnrazor’. The Nephilim continue to create their uncompromising form of visual and aural art. Prepare yourself to continue what has become a way of life to countless followers of the fallen faith with the scheduled release of new material, as well as announcements regarding a more adventurous audio-visual project.

Western Goth Music in London – Live Review

HEATHEN APOSTLES (WESTERN GOTH MUSIC – Live Review) – “Sailing Into Hell”:

Have you laid eyes on the Heathen Apostles before? Neither had I, so I tightened my corset and braced for the spectacle as The Lexington’s stage morphed into a grand theater. The band took their places, ready to unleash their storm.

For a bewildering moment, I wondered if a mistake had been made and that we were all about to see a production of The Crucible…
But then the music starts, and all thoughts of justice governed by fear, prejudice, and suspicion are banished by the powerful chemistry and musical genius that fills the air.

Western Goth Music - Heathen Apostles
Dimly lit and serious-faced, with an intensity so fierce it sends shivers down the spine, the crew aboard this storm-tossed vessel of sound is a force to be reckoned with. Mather Louth, captain of this weather-beaten Gothic Americana ship, commands the stage with vocals that pierce through the fog like a cutlass through the thickest of sails. Her voice guides us through seas of murderous balladry, the brooding lyrics and intricate instrumentation flowing with the ease of a ship slicing through dark, tempestuous waters. Their genre-bending style is as unpredictable as the high seas, each song a rogue wave crashing with elegance and power.
“Capital T” was led by the alluring violinist Luis Mascaro, whose bow dances with the finesse of a master swordsman. “Shadow of the Crows” follows, with Thomas Lorioux’s heavily percussive bass”

Amidst it all, the violinist—our ship’s smiling rogue—grins through the storm, his playing as sharp as any rapier blade. And smile he should, for his skill is nothing short of staggering. With a call from Louth—“How y’all doing, London?”—the ship sails into “Death’s Head,” and Louth, trading her well-worn guitar for a bodhrán, spins a tale of love turned sour and a stolen heart, the tremolo percussive beat building into a magnificent, macabre crescendo.

Strings fly off the fiddle, fingers a blur of fury and speed. Mather announces that their seventh album, The In Between, has just been unleashed upon the world. The crowd—many dressed in their own interpretations of Gothic Americana, a right old bunch of gothic buccaneers, some with no hair, others with long hair flowing, hats tipped just so, and a few even adorned with a small skull or two—respond with hearty cheers, fully enraptured. In no time, they’re under a spell, completely connected to the rhythm.

Chopper Franklin and Mather Louth Paintings at Far West Art Show

The Far West art show at the Arcadia Contemporary Gallery on September 9th and 10th will feature two extraordinary Chopper Franklin and Mather Louth paintings (of the Heathen Apostles) by Sean Cheetham. The title of the Mather painting is “There in the Ground, My Buried Heart”, and the title of the Chopper painting is “All of our Vows, in Death Did Part”, both lines from the Heathen Apostle’s song “Deadly Nightshade”. Also featured will be Sean’s painting “Us and Them”.

FAR WEST is the brainchild of visionaries Mark Maggiori and Petecia Le Fawnhawk-Maggiori, both of whom share a profound passion for the American West. The concept of showcasing the finest working artists in Western art is not new to them; in 2016, they successfully curated a standout exhibition at Parachute Market. “Early this year, Petecia and I were discussing all the projects we would love to accomplish in 2024 and she brought back the idea of the FAR WEST show, and we thought it would be fun to pull it off again but this time in New York City.”

Their creative journey began when they crossed paths on a film set deep in the Mojave Desert, near Chloride, Arizona. Since that serendipitous meeting, their Western odyssey has taken them from Los Angeles to Taos, and now back to Arizona, where they share their lives with their young daughter.

Heathen Apostles Paintings at Far West Art ShowSean Cheetham was born in 1977 in San Francisco, studied at the College of San Mateo, in California, and earned a B.F.A. degree with honors from Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena, California. His paintings have been included in numerous significant exhibitions internationally including the National Portrait Gallery in London. He has a devoted following of collectors and art students that are inspired by his work and distinctive technique. Primarily a figurative painter, Sean is known for his technical prowess in achieving accuracy and harmony in his alla prima paintings which he credits to a deep understanding of drawing and his own system of mixing colors which he uses adeptly to govern shadows, midtones and highlights.  In addition to having an exceptional ability to understand, draw, and paint the human form, Cheetham’s selection of subjects typically in familiar urban scenes contributes a truthful and often raw spirit that makes his work distinctive and a contemporary testimony of our time.
